I’m giving a talk at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 9/19/24 on “What Is The Modern Rock 500?”

The American Musicological Society sponsors an annual series of talks at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and this September 19 at 7pm I’ll be speaking on “What Is The Modern Rock 500?”. It is of course about WOXY and the Modern Rock 500, but it’s also about the different political and aesthetic contexts of modern rock vs indie rock, the mainstream appropriation of what Dan DiPiero calls “Big Feelings”-style indie (aka “Antonoffication), and how the Inhailer Indie 500, like Charli XCX and Chappell Roan, use modern rock nostalgia to disidentify with an Antonoffied mainstream (I.e., a certain blonde artist from Nashville).

Get your FREE tickets here to attend in person. A recording will be posted on the AMS website.

(Though this somewhat pains me as a Cincinnati girl to say this haha) See you in Cleveland!
